This salad has a bunch of weird ingredients but there is nothing to
fear. I have eaten this salad since I was a kid and I am still in
there kicking. I learned how to make this salad at my mother's knee
and have passed it on to another generation. It is the perfect
salad for a picnic, especially with hotdogs and hamburgers. Ask some
of the folks that attended the 2001 - 2009 Campouts and they will witness as
to its taste (I hope). It will make another appearance during the
2010 Campout.
-
Chop one head of lettuce into small pieces and place
in a bowl.
-
Chop one can of SPAM (yes uncooked SPAM) into small
beet like pieces and place in the bowl.
-
Chop one white onion into small pieces (this is the
hard part) and place in the bowl.
-
Open a standard sized can of peas (drain off the liquid and
drink it). Pour the peas into the bowl.
-
Mix a liberal (lots) amount of salad dressing (not
mayonnaise) and catsup into a bowl and mix into a Thousand Island
type of dressing. (Don't just use Thousand Island as a substitute.
That's too easy and won't taste as good).
-
Pour the Thousand Island type of dressing into the
bowl containing all the other ingredients.
-
Mix everything well so the dressing and the
ingredients are evenly mixed together.
-
Chill in the fridge for a couple of hours.
-
Serve it up.... much to the amazement of others.

Warning! You may have to increase the
amount of ingredients as time goes by to satisfy the growing
